Default SCX-60cf to SCX61 upgrade kit

As posted on their Facebook page, X Factory will be building a small number of upgrade kits for those who already have the SCX-60cf

Our SCX-61 is working great indoors and outdoors. My son just rebuilt the shocks and went with VRP pistons and a different front spring. Hoping it will be even better this afternoon.

How much of a difference do the new parts make? I don't have FB so I haven't seen the news post yet.

We never had an SCX-60cf so I can't compare them. The 61 continues with flex-deck technology but offers more battery placement options. First time out, my son ran with the shorty sideways all the way back on a very dusty, low grip truck. Forward and side bite like a rear motor with the corner speed of a mid motor. Today, we were on medium bite clay. Went to shorty lengthwise all the way back but could have moved it forward to get more steering. Downsides the jumps beautifully, and very resistant to blowovers outdoors. The truck impresses me enough that we may use his buggy as a donor to build an X-6 cubed later this year. My son's truck was a prototype used by one of the factory drivers. Building one would be an expensive proposition. The SCX-60cf kit required an SC10 donor for the front clip, ball diff, slipper, bones, bearing carriers, bumpers and shocks. The SCX-61 upgrade kit is for those who have the SCX-60cf and would like to upgrade it to the new center chassis. I haven't sat down to figure out what the upgrade kit plus other parts from the 60 would add up to, but it wouldn't be cheap. He also has a Losi 22SCT 2.0 with an Exotek chassis that kills it indoors but isn't that great outdoors. We were looking to go to a good multi-surface truck and narrowed it down to a Serpent or X-factory. XF makes everything in Ohio and Michigan, so when we got the chance to pick one up we jumped on it.

Chazz from Xfactory said that they will produce a kit with all the parts necessary to convert an SC10 to an SCX-61 by request email. He expects the price to be around $299. If you have an SC10 collecting dust and want to give it a new life, this is a great option. Properly set up, a rear motor won't catch it, even on a loose outdoor track.

Had a great run at the inaugural race at Spirit Controlled Hobbies, a medium-high grip track in Girard PA. Qualified a second behind Viking Design Works owner, JConcepts driver Erik Voelkle. Moved to first place in the A main for a few laps but limped it to a 3rd place finish behind Exotek/Voodoo Cells driver David Preyer after stripping the hex out of a rear wheel. Those guys from NY were bringin' it, but the SCX-61 held its own in spite of the wheel failure.

That was 2 weeks ago at an opener for a new "real dirt" track near Barberton, Ohio. Last night he was a full lap faster after a little tuning. The truck is very versatile, and the flex-tuning capabilities make a huge difference. We use no ballast anywhere on the truck, but can tune to any surface.

We picked up an SCX-60CF to run Stock with at the CRCRC Midwest Championship race, in addition to our Mod SCX-61. Since the race is going to be on high-bite clay, I don't think we'll see that much difference between the 2. After 3 trips to that track, we've found that the SCX-61 handles that surface best with the flex tuned out of it. On most tracks, some rear torsional flex has been beneficial. The 61 handles best with a brick pack, but we're going to try a shorty lengthwise in the 60 to reduce total weight while keeping F-R weight bias as close as possible to the Mod truck. I'll let you know what we find out. But the big test will be when we go back to the medium and low bite tracks closer to home.

During the mains, there was under a second difference in lap times between the 17.5 SCX-60CF and the Mod SCX-61. The difference will probably be greater on the tracks we usually run on.
