Default AVID steering rack install help

Hey guys. I recently purchased the Avid steering rack and was trying to install it. When installing the steering rack on my SC10, am I supposed to use the steering rack bearings from my FT sc10 kit? I noticed some holes where they could go, but they seemed like a very tight fit (and I would have to jam them in there). Also, should I be using the plastic steering brace that comes with with stock steering rack (the small plastic brace that goes under the steering rack? In other words, what pieces from my FT SC10 do I need to complete the install. Thanks!

I just installed one in mine. The bearings have to go in streight or the will seem tight. At least thats what happened to me. I used the braces that are on the bottom of the FT rack. This kit does take alot of slop out of the steering. Raced last night and enjoyed the lack of steering slop.

That's great information. I sure wish Avid would put some simple 1,2,3 instructions w/pics in with this $20+ unit.

I agree. Thanks for your help tosouthern66. It also helped to use the screws to help guide the bearings into place straight.

I went with an integy rack and so far I hate it. Looks like I need an avid one. But yes the bearings should fit snug. And the one plastic brace should be all you need.

Alot of the integy parts are good, but I dont think the steering rack is one of those. The drag link is worth keeping though.

I ran a integy too and was not pleased. it didn't really tighten up any of the slop. the avid is defiantly A+++. But you need good servo and a aluminum servo horn. I striped mine yesterday.

i run the STRC one and love it. had some trouble with it rubbing on the top brace at first but it turns out it just wasnt screwed in tight enough. now its good to go and i love it. took a lot of the slop out...now if only someone would design one that loses the stupid plastic bushings.
