Default airbrush compressor question

question and it may be dumb...lolol
but can you use a larger compressors for like air tools ( nail guns, air ratchets, etc) to power an airbrush.
I have been wanting to ditch rattle cans and get an airbrush for a while and also had to recently purchase a 2.2 gallon compressor for home use and wondered if I can use it to power a hobby type airbrush for doing bodies.
wondered any info people had on this.
Is it ok to use it? will it affect quality?
thanks for any help

You can use that compressor. Make sure you put a water trap on it. Condensation builds up inside the tank and eventually water droplets will spray along with the paint causing spatters. Spray acrylics at about 30 psi (set pressure higher but spray at 30), and lacquers, enamels etc at 20 psi. Disadvantage of this type of compressor is that it's loud. The compressors designed for air brushes are quiet.

Ive never used an air brush with my compressor but have painted with a cup gun. I never drop the pressure at the compressor because I use a pressure regulator directly conected to the gun. What pressure I use I have no clue I just adjust it till I get the correct spray pattern with the lowest air pressure possible.

you may also need some fitting adapters. The airbrush uses 1/4" fittings. I use an inline line dryer with color change beads, but its 1/2" fittings connected to an airbrush type compressor. I use a HVLP gun and my big comp for backing colors and flake additives due to the larger nozzle size.

I spray at the same pressures as caci says. I use mostly Createx paints, same as Faskolor, less expensive.

sounds like we have the same ideas here, I use the same inline dryer, pressure, and I like the paint (Createx) I buy it at HobbyLobby for $4.59 a bottle. The paint is already thinned down and ready to shoot right out of the bottle. I am also using a Porter Cable pancake compressor with great results.
Also the Createx is water clean up....nice!

both painted with Createx

just a helpfull update, be sure to disconnect the hose when you get done! i didn't and the pressure was more than the 1/4" hose could handle....not cool..lol
