Default Custom Losi XXX-SCT Thrasher

Hello to all RCSC.com'ers, this is my first post on here.
Here's my custom Losi XXX-SCT, I dubbed it '' Thrasher ''.
I started this project over a year ago, and because of a shortage of RC funds, it has taken me till last month to finish it and get it out to the track.
Here's a link to my complete build thread on RC tech. http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...rse-truck.html
Well here it is, what do you guys think ?

I got it out to the track last Wednesday for it's maiden voyage. A side from some electrical issues and my guess set up needing some tweaks, the truck worked flawlessly.
Since I've never driven any SC truck before, I didn't know what to expect from it, except what I've seen and heard about how they handle compared to Stadium trucks.

The set up I used was basically my normal MF2 setup, (which is awesome )the only changes I made was to run one shock spring stiffer front and rear, one shock oil wt. heavier all the way around , and 2 more limiters in each shock, I came up with this based off of the differences in the SC10 to T4 setups that I looked at.

After driving it for a little while, I let a local Losi sponsored guy, drive it, and he suggested stiffening up the front some more. I also talk to a bunch of the top SC drivers, to find out the ride height they where using, and I discovered that they were using a much higher ride height than what most of us where using on are Stadium Trucks.
I had it set up at 30mm Frt. 29mm Rr. most where at 34mm Frt. and 32mm Rr. or higher.

Changing those two things made a big difference, but now the rear seems to need some help, it's bouncing or getting unsettle over some of the jumps, it seems to me that it actually needs to be softer and or faster in the rear, which would put it back to my MF2 setting, my only concern is how much difference there is from front to rear now compared to my MF2.

I also discovered while looking at most of the top drivers trucks, that the amount of limiters that I put in the front, looks to be 2 two many, which right after I did it, I said man that looks like to many limiters, I had virtually no droop in the front, so I'm going to take 2 back out and leave my original two in, the rear with two looked and felt good.

Considering I have not driven or raced in 6 to 8 mouths, and have never driven or race SC, and I only had about a 20 min. of practice, before the first race, I think I did pretty good with it.
There was 20 Pro 2s, and I ended up qualifying 6th in the 15min. A main, I got shuffled back to tenth place in the opening laps, and then I worked my way up to 5th, which is were I was on the second to last lap, when I stuffed a pipe, and some one ran into the back of me, and then my truck would not move forward, I had steering but no motor, the marshal picked it up and looked at it, and could not see any thing wrong with it, when I got to it everything looked OK, no lights lights flashing, which is what I was expecting to see, either my Lipo cut off or motor thermalling, I saw neither.
I think I turned it off and then back on, and then It worked fine.

This ESC and motor is the original GTB with no Lipo cut off and SS4300 motor with a added Sintered rotor, I added a Novak Smart stop to it just recently.

I had this combo in my TC and it did the same thing, and I thought it was over geared and thermalling, but it would never flash the thermal lights like my other GTB would.

It also did it after about 10 min. the first time on the track in this truck,
Being that these SC tires are taller than ST tires, I originally went down 1 tooth on the pinion, and then I went one more, but it still did it in the main at about 14min.

I think there is definitely something wrong with the ESC or motor, I going to try a different motor, which I needed to any way because I was definitely getting motored by almost all of the other trucks, my lipos are almost three years old , and are definitely losing power, and as you can see with my old GTB and motor , I'm not up to speed with what most of the fast guys are running, with the new advancing ESCs and motors , but I was definitely holding my own and having a good time with my new ride. I'm going to make the changes that I said, and I'm looking forward to getting back on the track very soon, and see if I can get it to work even better, I'll see if I can get some video of it as well.

Chromie out .

This what Losi should have done instead of the Strike.

I made them all my self on my computer,I'm using a Graphic program that is similar to Illustrator, it's called Flexi sign, and it allows me to create, manipulate and change just about any thing I want.

It took me a few tries, first I found this bumper sticker paper that you could use a standard Ink jet printer on, but the print quality and flexibility was not that great.
Then I went to Kinko's to see if they would print me some on there real professional vinyl, and they said they could not print the copy write-ed Logos .
Then I found there over the counted adhesive backed paper that you could use a Laser printer on, but it is made out of paper, the print quality was great but the paper did not hold up, even putting a clear vinyl over it did not work to good.

So as it stood the first bumper sticker material was the best I could do with a clear laminate over it.

I went back to Office Depot to get some more of this bumper sticker material, and found out that they don't carry it anymore.

So I started looking around to see if I could find something else that would work, and that's when I found this stuff, it's made by Avery and is called (weather proof white labels) it is some kind of vinyl that you can use a Laser printer on.

Click the image to open in full size.

The print quality is as good as any sticker I've seen, and it's very sticky, but it's not very stretchy, It works great on flat and semi curved surfaces, but not so good on real curved areas, like where the big S is on the side of my SCT.
I tried using a hair dryer to heat it up when putting it on, but It did not seem to help. Also the heat seems to have a bad effect on the glue, because when I stick it on something flat, it sticks so good I can barely get it off, but when I heat it , it doesn't seem to stick at all.

But any way It's all I can afford, and I think it looks good enough for me. I have tried to have some stickers done professional, and it cost way more than I can afford or think that it's worth.
I hope this helps.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Since I'm a old motocross racer and a big fan of Motocross and Supercross, I used that and this picture of Chad Reeds bike as inspiration for my XXX-SCT & MF2 paint job, pictured below Chads bike.

I also did the paint and all the stickers on my MF2 below

I've seen you out at SRS a few times, your trucks look awesome!

That is super cool that you cna make your own stickers, you just use a color printer? I'm painting a body for my son and want to put out logo on it, this would be awesome, I'll have to go look for that label stuff.

Hey Mike, I remember you and your son.
It's weird, the kinko's I go to wont print trademark on there vinyl, yet they are willing to print it on mine, I'm not sure why that is.

Well SS4300 with updated rotor is a full fledged 10.5T now. And basicly your a SC10 setup so 86/23 gearing should be spot on.
You guys running 15 minute mains.
You got pit stops or running 8000mah batteries or what?

There is nothing wrong with your GTB and motor. Your just plain out of battery juice. LOL
I went to your SRS track web site. Read your class rules and they seem to be anti sct nazi's.
No short course trucks in NOVICE. Heck my local tracks are probably 95% sc trucks in novice with all young kids.
Cute to look up and see their tongues hanging out and concentrating.

Default crc conversion

I just got the crc MF 2 conversion to SC. It is excellent. Handles unbelieveable. Battery placement is most adjustable of any sc out there. This CRC kit totally worth the money.

Houps I'll tell you what I'm talking about. No I haven't raced your track 2000 miles away from me. But just for giggles I looked up class rules and unless I'm missing something your track list Novice and sportsman class with no slashes or sc10's allowed. I thought that was strange and anti short course truck. Like I said plenty of central Indiana tracks all have at least a novice class and now mostly slashes and sc10 trucks fill those classes. I was interested in the 15 minute main rules talked about in this thread. So go crawl under a rock. Here is the link to SRS
