Default I'm at a loss and about to just give up...

I'm running a Losi XXX-SCT in stock CORR. Currently I have a Viper 17.5T motor and a Novak GTB2 esc with a gearing of 27/84. I'm really new to this hobby and have fun running the truck but my truck is a real dog and neither I are many of the guys at my local track can figure out why.

I'm on an indoor, high bite track and am running a good tire/ shock combo. Of course I can always be a better driver but the frustrating part is not having the punch to get over the humps. I literally see my car struggling to try and produce torque.

I've tried several gear ratios: 25/78; 27/78; 27/82; & my current 27/84.

A couple guys mentioned turning the bell timing all the way up to see if it would help. It actually ran slower and when I pulled it off the track it was at 183 degrees. (I normally run at around 110)

On another note I run my Stock Truck with an Orion 17.5 and a Speed Passion Short Course Master and the thing has a ton of balls. I mean, I know that it's a lighter truck...but by how much?

I'm sorry for the rant but I Really am at a loss and have no clue what to do. I mean, sure I could just go out and get a Tekin RS 17.5 T combo but after buying both trucks and everything I need to race & pit I'm regretfully on a fixed budget for the time being.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

~John

Check your mesh. See if ot goes in reverse faster than forward. Check your lipo cells. Try reprogramming your esc. Check slipper clutch and check for binding

Epa maybe? Id try the motor w/ a different esc and vice versa. Never know, something could be bad or not great. I just replaced a cc (I know, totally different) because it ran great, and started falling on its face. Pulled the stator and found a winding coming undone. Strange shat happens. Guys at my track with that very setup are faster than the mod guys a lot of the time.
It's odd, but strike tires are awesome on carpet. Discgolferlee posted his setup in the tires section and its the real deal.

It almost sounds like there is binding going on. Increased temps like that with low speeds.

I run at Falcon Raceway in Washington, PA. We're running 35/74 in our 17.5 SCB's and SCT's. After 7-10 minute runs temps are around 155*.

Some motors are just dogs. I have a novak ss 17.5 that is a dog for no timing. Toss some boost on the motor and it is awesome. Take the boost off, go back to NT and dog again. I've run other 17.5 fixed timing motors (same gearing) that were good and fast, but this one is horrid. I keep it on hand for my 9 y/o son to race with, motor runs cool, so it calms down the car for him to work on driving.

+1 on this.

Borrow a different 17.5 motor with your ESC and then do the opposite and see what's causing the issue. If its the ESC, can you upgrade the firmware on the GTB2? Or call Novak and tell them whats happening. they have been pretty good in the past with replacing or fixing ESC for me.
