Default Graphite Lower Kickplate Breaking '' CAUTION ''

Hey fellas, just had a question for you guys. I recently purchased the Upgraded Graphite Kickplate Bulkhead STR ( part # LOSA9713 ) The problem I am having is that it continues to break in the same spot, which is the screw holes. I have installed them 2 different ways, 1st with screws only with just a snug fit and then with washers to try to distribute the pressure, yet they continue to break in the same spot. I am not the best driver but they seem to break on normal wear and tear. I ran the stock bulkhead for quite some time with no problems, the same kind of wear & tear and it held up very well and never broke. I only went with graphite because I thought it would be a potential breaking point in the car and now I regret it. "At the cost of $17.99 ea. that is an expensive break! Losi says that it is graphite but I do not believe it is 100 percent graphite. Does anybody know what other composites this is mixed with?, if any.
BTW looks like I'm going back to the stock part.

I also have the exotek steering brace on my SCB with the graphite front end . That system is holding out good so far.

Can you post pics of the broken ones? I just dont see how you can be breaking that. I've got a year on mine with continous weekly racing.

Using no brace I might add

Yeah I cannot figure it out either Are you running the same aftermarket graphite plate and how are you mounting it, are you using any washers to displace the pressure?
I would love to post some pictures but I can't find the link on the message tool board to post the pictures.

Just put it on and tightened the screws, don't know what else to tell ya.

No aftermarket parts, only Losi parts used.

That is a Losi part, at least that's what the package said on it.

Actually my driving is not that bad.

Thanks for the information

I have been having the same problem with my rtr part and was suggested to use the graphite part....glad I didn't.

This is from T-Bone Racing, this will fix the problem.

The photobucket is being weird, but any way just go to T-Bone Racing in google and check out what they have. Mine is on its way. I have broken 4, all in the exact same way. Right across the screws....sound familiar. Check it out.

I've driven my trails SCT head on into a tree and mangled the bumper, but the kickplate (graphite) is fine.....what are you doing to break it?

The 2 screws that go in from the top thread into the chassis inserts and you basically tighten them until they won't turn anymore. I use washers on mine. If those are left loose it could flex and break I suppose....

I don't think I've ever broken that graphite part...in 12 years of running XXX vehicles.

Wow...! 12 years and you never broke a graphite partCan I borrow that rabbit's foot or that 4 leaf clover or maybe your driving skills.
I have tried the washers, just with a snug fit. The funny part is that when I was running the stock plate I never broke it and I had some pretty bad crashes to. I guess I will go back to the stock plate and run it and see what happens. Thanks Matt for the info.

I'm running that same graphite bulkhead on my XXX-SCT, XXXT-CR and my XXX-CR buggy and have never broken none. I've had a few ball studs snap off on them but never the break you mentioned. And I've been running it on my SCT since the truck came out and its had more than its fair share of narly crashes.... and then some.

Don't know but can tell you its not a common issue with them.

Hope you figure it out.

I don't drive aggressive over jumps, prety much lands on all four at the same time if I flat land one. I'm sure there are more than 2 of us with this issue. At first it wasn't a problem, but now I am running faster laps with out mishap than the people that have been racing for years...lol. Just don't want to lose another race because the steering is all sloppy from another kick plate breaking. The flex from the skid plate on the seem of the kick plate is the issue.

I tear down the truck and clean and inspect everything. I also go threw it and make sure everything is tight before every run. The last one I purchased is already cracked and it hasn't been 2 months yet. I'm going to try the t-bone racing bumper and brace. It covers that seem where my problem occurs.

This might be a dumb question but are you "pre" tapping the screw holes? If not this is the easiest way to break Losi Graphite. I remember on my old graphite plus kits it always said to pre-tap each screw hole prior to assembly...

thats funny we race on a outdoor 1/5th scale track with huge jumps I have yet to break anything on my truck and when I assembled mine I used all old graphite parts which had been sitting on the shelves of the hobby shop for oh about ten years .......
