Do you have the stock gear diff in your buggy or the ball diff. Just to be alittle more clear on it I'm talking about the one that holds the drive shafts together. Not the trans.

Oh, sorry! I'm still running the gear diff (local Spec class rules).

Looks like I'll be moving the SCB to a Mod class now. It's getting a Castle Mamba Max Pro and Castle 4600kv (sensorless) motor. Hopefully before the weekend it'll also get a TLR ball diff and fancy shocks. Will post up some pics later tonight...

I realize the 4600 is a LOT of motor for this buggy, but it's all I've got right now. That being said, any suggestions on gearing for it? I tested it out in the street with the same gearing I was running in the Spec class: 17/90. It seems to have plenty of grunt and top end. Just not sure how much is too much and I'd prefer not to fry my motor.

Thanks, Morten! I picked them up from ebay.

I raced the SCB this past Sunday with the Castle MMP ESC and a sensorless 4600kv (2 pole) motor. The track had just been redone and was pretty loose, clumpy clay early in the day. Over time it became rough and hardpacked. Despite running a ball diff, softer rear springs, and a variety of tires I could not get the back tires to hook up at all. On throttle it was just a joke and adjusting the slipper really didn't help much. I managed to win, but there were only 3 of us in the class.

I even tried moving the battery rearward, but that didn't seem to help it plant power much, but it sure did jump horribly. I'm going to rebuild the diff and make a host of other changes soon. I've also got a replacement powertrain for it. Details soon....

Here's a pic from Sunday's race.

Some tool named Hollywood....or somethin'. But all he had to do was lay the paint. I had the hard job of masking it all!

He's in TX. And sorry, I assumed you were my friend who did the painting and were messing with me. He also goes by the screen name of Hollywood.

Definitely going to be watching this thread to see what you do with the motor and trans. I had a similar experience with the 4600kv motor. See my thread about carnage.

I didn't race this past weekend, but I'm investing a LOT in the buggy and hoping for a strong performance at the next race!

I ordered a mess o' parts and now have a rebuilt ball diff that's silky smoove. New TLR aluminum rear hubs, toe block, and new EA3 rear arms. I also have TLR front shocks and am rebuilding the TLR rears. TLR spring steel turnbuckles are also now installed.

Then there's the electronics. I'm replacing the Castle stuff (which only saw one race) with a Tekin RS ESC and it'll be powering a Tekin 8.5 motor. Yeah, this motor is going to be WAY too much for our dusty, slick track. But I got a good deal on the motor/ESC combo so I figured I'd try it out. If it's too much I'll look into trading it for a 10.5 or maybe even a 13.5 Tekin.

Hopefully I'll finish up the mods tonight and will post up some pics then.

Yes, I can turn it down, but it may still be rather peaky since it's so powerful. I've give it a try this weekend and see how it does.

Finally some pics! First, here's what happens when you use an Associated spur/slipper setup on a Losi (they don't quite fit properly) with a 4600kv motor. That's metal shavings grooved into the pads. When I bought this trans used, that's the spur that was on it. It wasn't until after the race I saw that it didn't fit the Losi transmission properly.

Here's how everything is now set up. Tekin RS, 8.5T motor, and all kinds of new TLR goodies.

I mounted the ESC sideways this time. It helped with routing the wires in the narrow SCB chassis. You can also see where I mounted the on/off switch on the rear shock tower for easy access.

The switch utilizes a hole molded into the housing to attach it to the rear bulkhead/shock tower assembly.

New front chassis brace with transponder mount, ball cups on the front upper arms, and new shocks. Feels really nice now. Also, TLR spring steel turnbuckles throughout.

An overhead shot with everything installed. Shown with my Losi test tires so I don't tear up my racing stuff on the street.

Man, I can see I'll be way behind on the learning curve when I get to race with you guys in Temple, that is assuming it ever stops raining. Since the rain pushed back my own track build that was scheduled for this weekend, I went to work on my new SCB. Just delivered this past week and has never seen the outdoors. But does now have a tekin 13.5 motor/esc combo installed and a new body on it. Waiting delivery of steering servo and then will be ready (for me anyway) to hit the track. Figure I'll just get out there and run before deciding what I need to "hop up" on this dude, and which of the various sets of tires I have, to run. You guys talk about Diffs and what not and I'm really clueless, so guess I will just learn as I go! When I get pics on a pc I'll upload, but will be easy to recognize on the track, just sayin!!!

So here is my SCB. Pics don't do it justice but all I had was my phone, but it is REALLY bright sporting the fluorescent orange scheme. Threw on some stock Losi wheels and tires I had cause they matched and looked cool, but have various race ones to be mounted this week.

Looks good! And I suspect that 13.5 motor may be the way to go. I'm sure my 8.5 is simply waaaaay too much for that slick track we run on. We'll see if I can get it to hook up any better this weekend, but I predict I'll be selling the 8.5 soon and looking for a 10.5 or 13.5 myself.

I just searched forums all over and it seemed like that was the choice as anything smaller required mods and anything larger was just too much. I don't know, will find out, but also got the hotwire in case it needs some adjustments. I just hope the weather cooperates, and my kids schedules do as well, so I can get down there SOON!

Have a stock SCT I want to get out there and run as well.
