Default Desert build off.....lucas oil racing Chevy

(Changing the Truck from a trophy to a Lucas Oil Racing Truck)......Here's a project I've been working on for a while. I was building it for a guy but I inherited now. It's still as you see in the ruff stages and I'm trying to figure out what to use for the drive train. I,m trying a Novak 5.5 direct drive to the rear axle but that didn't work out, I think I had some bad sensors because it wouldn't get out of the hole with out a little push. BUT once it got going, hold on lol...and that was only at 50 percent power. I now have a Axail trans in it with a VXL system and it runs alot better and has a little longer run time but I'm still not happy with it. So I'm now going to take the center diff out of my spaire losi sc4x4 and put in a Novak 4.5 motor. I'll have to braze the spiders. I also started building some cage but the front have looks a tad funny because the bars are high on the cage but I did that so they fit tight under the body so when it crashes it has some support, and we all know its going to have some spectacular ones ...Anyway there will be more to come.

It would be fun but I couldn't get it done it that time frame. I've got to much going on between my work and painting the house. I could try but I doubt it.

You could use a outrunner brushless to get the torque you need for the direct drive similar to this rig Brushless Chevy Prerunner - Scale 4x4 R/C Forums

I dont know anything about these motors, are they like a 4.5 or a 5.5?
Where can I look at them.

Outrunners are a different kind of a brushless motor they are used in planes and some people use them in crawlers as far as where you can look at them just about any hobbyshop should have some. You are probably going to want one with a kv of 2000 or so for a 2 cell or more depending on how much speed you want keeping in mind the higher the kv the lower the torque.

I would like to have it run somewhere about the speed of a VXL. I will run on a 2s, a 3s I think will be out of control and brake more parts. What would you think I should run if I try that motor.

a 2s should be just fine and with a 2s and a 2000kv motor kv being the amount of rpm's per volt a little bit of math tells me that it should go 72 maybe 5-10 mph slower due to drag now with a 1600kv motor the math says it would go 58 if there was no drag. so this or something like this should be good for what you need HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : Turnigy 500 H3126 Brushless outrunner 1600KV and its only $27 including shipping

Heres a little more work done, I'm thinking of staying with the slash rear bumper just to give it some give on hits and its easy to replace.

The front bars might look a little weird but I'm trying to follow the body lines a little to keep it strong in crashes.

I used revo upper links and I had to build a upper mount because I kept braking the the stock one. I made the upper mount a little different. Now so far so good The traxxas probably wont stay, I working on eather using the out runner or I'm going to try the axial set up first.

Well I got a out runner motor, its only a 950 but my friend at the hobby shop is going to let me try it out, if it works good or half way good than I'll get one like 1600 or the 2000 and try them. I've got it mounted so I just need to hook up the wires and esc and cross my fingers.

Are you running it to the tranny or directly to the axle? 950kv directly to the axle is going to be fast with little get-up-and-go and you will be limited to 2s lipo where as if you are using with the transmission then its going to be really slow.

I'm just trying it straight up. I was thinking that it would be fast out of the hole than slow, right? thats why I should get the 1600 or 2000, the 950 was all he had right now. Or I might also try the Axial with a 69 spur,39 pinion and a 4.5 balistic motor.

No, from what I have researched it will be slow to start then have lots of top end. If you are using a 2s lipo it might not be too bad considering that it is still a fairly low kv. When it comes to direct drive lower kv on higher voltage = better. Whats the ratio of your rear axle?

Ok. is that why there saying use a 1600/2000 than. I'm running a 2s 6500,65c and a rc4wd rear axle, dont know the ratio right now. I might go to the Wraith axle.
