Any expected date of release? Seems like an interesting alternative to nitro in my sc8

I wonder if it would be nice in a 1/8 buggy.

Only place I've seen with that March 2012 claim was bigsquid (take that for what its worth ).

I seem to strongly remember October as the timeframe, from the interview with the HPI exec...

okay so there are a bunch of problems i see with this motor (for my application at least) i have a savage 25 limited edition with the nitro star k5.9 which is a .36 engine. yes the price of nitro fuel is expensive but think how much your going to spend on the oil to mix with the gas for when u want to run it, and then trying to get the mixture right of gas and oil. think this motor is going to make your truck like those damned weed eaters. a pain in the ass to get the mixture right and an even bigger pain to get it started.

i also see in the pic it has some kind of unknown wire coming out of the case right by the crankshaft. where does that have to go and then where do u get the power from to power the ignition system. i mean i can only fit a 5 cell nimh rx pack in my truck and that its severely under powering my electronics.

also going with the 2 speed or 3 speed tranny yes is a good idea. i already have the 3 speed tranny in my savage with is nice, and it will offer more speed for any one that puts it in but think of how much u have to modify your truck to put that tranny in just to get the more speed. and from the looks of the one picture that has it in a savage, it looks like i'm going to have to drop close to $200 on the XL chassis conversion and to get the conversion to mount the gasoline fuel tank up front where my radio box would normally be, and this is added onto the original price of $250. for me just to drop $450 on this to get it in my truck to where i can go out and buy another or even bigger nitro engine them my k5.9 or even save up $100 and drop it on something that will be faster than both. the hpi savage flux 2350. and also if i did convert to this id be getting a slower and less powerful (in horsepower that is) motor than my nitro even thou this gas motor is 2.1cc bigger than my nitro.

i don't know how u guys feel about this but from what i listed above its just seriously not worth it

All of what has been posted so far is here-say no1 knows a thing yet, not even big squid. All we know is that of which has been posted by hpi so let's not speculate yet and throw it out the window already . I personally think this will be a great idea if they can get the power to talk ratio good and the runtimes and prices of fuel will be much better. And as for
Mixing the fuel and oil, it ain't all that bad.

I agree and it is CHEAPER than nitro roughly $20.00 + for nitro compared to gasoline say anywhere from $3.75 to $5.00 gallon ! And if you don`t have a hobby shop near by to get nitro which I don`t I live on an island gasoline would be be better and I like the ease of tuning a 2 stroke compared to nitro !!

I was wondering the same thing.

To me a 2 stroke gas engine is so much easier than a nitro.

The only problem with this engine is that the exhaust is on the wrong side. If you installed this on a 1/8 scale buggy, the exhaust would have to go over the radio tray unless they made a header that wrapped back around to the other side...

I'd love to see them pull off a gas powered version of Ty Tessman's HB/HPI D8 buggy or D8T truggy.

After owning a weed powered Losi5iveT and going reed. I can't tell you guys enough how easy it is to have fun. The past 2 months, I spent $30 on 3gallons of 110 and another $9.99 for oil and I still have a gallon left. This is with 8 solid hours of runtime and well, 2 months of play. O yea, and 2 $4 spark plugs. And this is on a larger scale weighing in at 58 pounds versus an 1/8. Money will be saved unless this engine is balony.
I just might have to put together an HPI powered Team Associated SC8Petro! :-)

Since a stock Losi is about 37 pounds, you must have a butt load of mods on that beast. Click the image to open in full size.

Yep ! They're really rtr 48pounds if I'm not mistaken. I added 2-speed , reed case, GFR dual servo tray, dual hitecs, LIpo. Much more billet braces, hubs, ect. Suckers a beast!
Doesn't subtract the fact that I can start it without need of screw driver for tuning. But me, I like to get the most out of my tune so I'll have fun with it.

Happy to know a news about new petrol engine for 1/8 scale vehicles! I will be in front to buy it. It would be easy to use nitro engine exhausts with this vehicle. Hoping to see good performance and engine power in this latest vehicle!

Truck Scale
