If I can get some help from you guys that would great. I have done a lot of searches on this forum and RC TECH and narrowed it down to 3 choices of motor ESC combo's. I will use the SCTE for racing not bashing, our track is a large outdoor track made of a clay. I thinking about the Castle MMP race pro 1410 3800kv or the Viper VTX10R and Viper VST4.5XL or the tried and true RX8 and the PRO4 4600. I live in Florida so heat will be a issue if a motor is underpowered right? I'm looking for any pro's and con's with these combo's and gearing suggestions. I like the fact that the Castle is cheaper but that is all for not if it won't do the job in the heavy SCTE. The Viper system seams great but there seams to not a lot people commenting about them. At our track the Tekin set up that I mentioned above seams to run hot at our track from my last two visits to my track but that could all types things that would cause that. Anyways any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you, so the Castle system is not bad then over all? Its obvious that the Tekin is the better set up but I would like to spend some money in other areas of the truck a get racing. It seams that Viper is the unknown factor review wise. The Viper system is as expensive as Tekin which is shocking wonder if its worth it? Thanks Richard

There is also the hobbywing Esc's,I was doing a lot of research and seen most all people are happy with a Tenshock motor and a Hobbywing ESC "Hobbywing ESC's cost Under $100". I want to run Sensored, which hobbywing has a sensored esc but I have a hard time finding in stock in the US. So wheN I had the money I couldn't find one,and when I don't I see them pop up,so I just decided to save a few more bucks and going to pick up a RX8 locally after Xmas. Everyone seem's to agree that the RX8 is the best, but the biggest knock is the price. But just look around there are online coupons that will knock off $10-$25 off your order which brings it down to the next competitor the Castle products. Ive used Castle stuff in the past and seem just fine, but I read more then a few people have had overheating problems,I bet more then half of that is user error. But it was enough for me to decided against it.

If you are concerned with heat, which was a BIG problem I had, I ran the castle MMP/4-pole 2400kv motor combo in my SCTE. I could gear it a little higher than the other guys and since most of them were running slashes, it was all good.. Never had a problem running a good lap, always had problems with traffic. The top speed wasn't quite there, on 2s, but it was brutally strong. The torque off the line was impressive. A couple guys accused me of cheating when I pulled the front tires off the ground, while racing on the carpet.. LOL. I have a MMP/3800kv combo right now. The low speed control is a little lacking, but otherwise it runs great. If you can afford the RX8/pro4 motor, GO FOR IT.. The indoor track I race on limits us to motor size because the track is TIGHT and there are people very close to the track. We run the 3800kv castle, or 3300kv Pro4 Tekin motor. Believe it or not, that 3300 keeps up with the 3800.. No joke.. If I had it to do over again, which I am thinking about doing, I would go for the RX8 and a Pro4.. Otherwise, go for the RX8, get the castle motor, and upgrade in the future.

Bigstu... thank you for the advise. I'm thinking about the Castle 1410 MMB combo for one reason actually, I can start racing and buy all the TLR chassis and braces and the TLR tuning kit with new lightened out-drives. This way I can get racing with some goodies on the truck from the beginning. I like the RX8 PRO4 combo, its just a tough decision on what to do... Castle with upgrades or buy the Tekin set up and do some of the cheaper upgrades but save the larger ones for later??? Strange that not many people commented about the VIPER systems. My SCTE is new and never seen the track yet. I have a budget of 700. for a Motor, ESC, Batteries, oils for shocks and diff's and important improvements for the truck. I have a Hyperion charger and the Savox servo and a Futaba 4PL so far. I'm trying to get the most for dollar. I have been out of the hobby for awhile and really appreciate the help so far.

i just picked up a losi ten sct and got a mmp and the 3800 motor. i havnt got to run yet, been to busy. but there is a guy at our track running that motor with the crappy sidewinder sct esc with a fan and that truck is fast. thats what kinda sold me on the mmp and 3800 combo. the bec on the castle stuff doesnt seem to be a problem unless you run a savox servo. i went with a hitec.

you shouldn't need to do alot of upgrades to make this truck competetive..i have the rx8 and a tenshock 4600kv motor(on the way)..and for upgrades..i have the spring kit..and that's it..carbon shock towers on the way also..but that's it for upgrades..truck doesn't need a ton..i'ld say go with the rx8 and a sensored 4600kv..the tenshock was $89 at CKHOBBIES..there are other places that have the motors in stock also..

I started out with the castle mmp and castle 3800. Very good. I never had a problem with it. I got the Tekin rx8 and pro4 4600. I love it. Im glad I tried this tekin stuff. the castle stuff is very very good to. It all comes down to personal preference.

Thank you for everyone's replies, I decided to buy the Castle 1410-MMB race pro set up along with the USB programming cable. I decided the to get a couple of other things to finish the truck up...bump chassis with the TLR tune up kit and rear torque brace and 3 Spec Racing 60c 6000mah batteries and a spring kit and diff and shocks fluids and last of all I will have to order the shock pistons for the local hobby store. I figured I always start RTR and replace all these different parts so why not try it another way even if it means it takes longer to start racing. Thanks again Richard
