Default What are some good choices and or bad choices for transmitters?

Looking to buy a radio set up for my Blitz plan on using a Savox servo, need a good idea that is somewhat wallet friendly for a trans/rec.

If you want my vote, I'm running an aging but still 100% functional Futaba 3PM FASST. One of those midrange 2.4GHz systems, all the functions you need and none that you don't

This one works great at a price lower than the other brand's receivers.

Airtronics and Futaba tied at @ #1. Spectrum a solid #2. KO great, but not supported well.

If you look around you can usually find stock 2.4 Traxxas systems that people have taken out for $20-$50. It's not the most fancy setup, but it will do everything the more expensive units can for a lot less.

For $35 the Fly Sky system that Deanz posted above looks like a good option too!

If you don't care about having 2.4ghz you can probably find some really nice AM/FM setups that people have upgraded from...

What ever you do, stay away from Spektrum DSM 1 gear. DSM 2 is much better though. I have DSM 1 radio and receivers and have been having nothing but glitch problems and receiver shut down on bigger bumps/hits.

If your looking for the best price versus options then look at the Futaba 2PL and 3PL radios. They sell for $110 for the 2pl and $115 for the 3pl before shipping.

This may be a stupid question but what Spektrum radios are DSM1? I'm looking highly into a DX3s or DX2s and it seems to me both are DSM1. Is this true. It seems inconclusive to me on their website.

tower has the airtronics mx3 sport for $89.99. seems to be a good priced 2.4 radio! it has a 10 vehicle memory and it has an lcd screen to boot. But for $169.99 you can get the mx3x which more functions than most would need. I may go with that one or the cheaper mx3 sport.

I had a Dx3s and had issues with it working with my servos so I just upgraded and went with the Futaba 3pk 2.4ghz. Best radio I've ever had My other choice was the Airtronics M11x or Mx3x. I heard those radio system are really good too.

Im a single parent ALWAYS on a budget, so I opted for the FlySky http://www.hobbypartz.com/fs-gt2-24ghz-radio-black.html. I run 5 cars on this 1 controller and it cost me less than 50.00, its has no bells and whistles just minor adjustment options(steering/throttle trim) and Ive been running it for about a year now with ZERO issues. I have ordered the newer LCD unit for more options and convenience when changing to a different car/truck. Great product.

I have a 4pk (couldn't stand to look at the 3pk). I had a DX3s and have used a DX3r. The 3r is better than the 3s except I have the 3r trigger. In weight and feel, the 4pk makes the Spektrum radio feel like a cheap toy. Try others at the track, If you have the loot then buy the best you can the first time. I have learned this big time with radios and ESCs.

Anyone using the 4pl? I think I'm going back and forth between the 4pl and m11. The dx3r is the same price but it seems like I am reading a lot more negative things about spektrum over futaba and airtronics.

I'm not sure what the visual differance is but this link here shows that I'm not the only one with glitching issues, loss of signal while racing, and having to rebind the Tx to Rx on a normal basis. I had to rebind the system every week before even leaving my pit stall. Once I did it for the day it was normally okay but had some problems with the rx just turning off on occasion. While the glitch buster proved to be some help, I still had issues. The last straw was when I started having problems with the rx turning off after hitting a board or getting caught up in racing collisions. I'll try to find out the visual differance between dsm1 and dsm2.

http://www.socal-rc.com/forum/archiv...php/t-643.html

Okay on a quick search on the spektrumrc.com website the visual difference between DSM1 and DSM2 is this. DSM1 receivers all just say DSM. Nothing more. All the DSM2 receivers have DSM with the # 2 under the DSM in a orange boardered box. That is your visual differance.

I've heard the DSM2 receivers are better but still are not 100% problem free. We are dealing with radio electronics here so every company out there will be prone to some kind of radio interferance at 1 time or another. We just might not see the interfereance.
