I lost yet another rear dog bone in my Exo Terra so I decided to upgrade to the Universal Axles.

The instructions in the upgrade are easy to read and follow. The installation process is pretty straightforward and easy to do.

The hardest part for me was removing the inner bearings from the knuckles/carrier so that the spacer can be installed in the knuckle/carrier.

The inner bearing fits over the axle and acts as the retainer for the pin.

Here is a view of the universal joint in the rear axle.

The on the rear, the diff end of the axle sits right in the center of the slot in the diff cup when the Exo is sitting still on its wheels.
I checked the full range of the suspension travel and wasn't able to make the axle come out of the diff cup.

I have ran 4 packs with the universals installed and haven't lost an axle yet. It is doing a lot better for me than the dog bones with the o-ring.

PROS:
A lot harder for the dog bone to fall out.
Reduces slop in the drive train.
Easy to install.

CONS:
Cost
Possible to wreck inner bearing when removing it to install the spacer.

The undersized outer bearings in the stock knuckes are going to last a little longer too since they aren't back to back anymore. Good thinking Axial!

To get the inner bearings out of their places I blew the dirt out from around them, then tapped the knuckle/carrier on the table with the inner side down and they came out just fine.
