Default Motor/ESC?

Hi all,

What does everybody think about this motor and ESC?

You dont need the 150A esc with that size motor. Look for a true 550 size motor if you want to pull the maximum potential out of that esc. The motor you linked was a 36mm can, whereas a 550 motor is a 40mm can. I've never had any trouble with any of the hobbywing/turnigy esc's. Heres what im going to run
HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : Turnigy Brushless 1/8 Scale Car Power System 1965Kv/150A
Only thing with this setup is im gonna have to run a higher battery cell count (im planning on running 4s) and i may have to gear a little taller, so heat may be an issue.
Also, i got it fro $167 shipped. Stay on the page long enough, and it will pop up with a lower price offer

I use that motor in my rustler, might not be big enough for an EXO and it's only 2 poles, I would def. go with a 550 or 540 size 4 pole at minimum. I'd look at something like the tenshock sc401 4000kv from ckhobby or builtrc and pair it with an 80a or higher esc.

That combo should be plenty for the EXO. Although don't expect the performance to be similar to a MMP or RX8 b/c ESC's such as the MMP/RX8 have a dual mode that switches automatically between sensored/sensorless for optimum efficiency

The Hobbywing ESC's do not have this ability.

No prob, You can find used RX8's for about $150 or cheaper if you poke around the FS section on rctech. The MMP with an external BEC will run about $120. The Xerun should be fine though for just bashing around just keep an eye on temps and gear it right.

No doubt, I don't blame ya. Atleast you know to get more esc/motor then you'll need instead of something that might struggle and burn up in it. The EXO sucked me in enough also b/c it just looks awesome so I sacrificed my 2wd slash to get it and pulled my MMP/Tenshock SC401 4000kv outta that for the EXO.

What kinda servo do they give you (Brand/specs), can't be that good if their just giving you one for free. I'm only paying $285 for my exo with free shipping from Tower and I already have all the electronics for it waiting, I actually have 2 motor's for it a Fantom Fusion2 3.5T(sensored) and a Tenshock SC401 4000kv (sensorless) Probably go with the Fantom since it's sensored . Afraid it might get to hot with the interior in it so may buy a SC411 4000kv.

That's not the right info......... The difference between a 540 and a 550 is the lenght of the can not the diameter.

A 540 is 36mm diameter and 50mm in length , a 550 is 36mm diameter and 60~65mm length.

They dont say what brand, they just say its a 180in/oz (6v)

How did you get one from tower for that? i havnt preordered yet so if i can get it cheaper i wanna know

Here's the site: AXIAL EXO 1/10 SCALE 4WD TERRA BUGGY KIT

Also from reading some things about it on that site i see this

Patent Pending ESC Clip
We include three ESC mounting plates. Securely clip in your Castle SV2, or Novak Havoc SC ESC's with our patent pending ESC mounts. Running something different? Then use the included universal servo mount plate and standard servo tape.
Its says Castle SV2, would that ESC push that Tenshock SC411 4000KV or the SC401 motor? Because i have an SV2, but i dont wanna burn it up.

My MMP fits the Castle plate perfectly , it's even being held down by most of the clips.

Not sure about the SV2/Tenshock combo tho , the SV2 is probably a little "light" on the amps for the Tenshocks.

When it comes to ESC's i always go for "overkill" on the amps

Rather pay a little more for a bigger ESC and be safe then burn 1 that's a few bucks cheaper and rated lower...

Lol... All i'm worried about is the downtime that comes along with crap burning up..... Hahaha

Especially with the Exo , haven't done much driving yet due to the weather overhere but the little time i did manage to squeeze in was GREAT !!
It turns on a dime in stock/buildmanual set-up on the streets , really have to watch the steering/speed or it will griprol before you now it ...

Should be a blast to run it on dirt.

Doesn't sound like a bad servo with those specs for free.

I'm a Tower super saver club member (cost's $10 a year). For club members Tower lowers the price of the EXO from $345 to $335 and I used my discount code for $50 off a $300 order. so it goes to $285 with free shipping. The code only works for club members also.

I wouldn't trust an SV2 esc either in a EXO. Going over kill on the ESC is never a bad thing imop.

Im a member to and didnt even see that

I would save like 10$ if i bought it there and got a 5645MG for a servo...hmm what to do...
